La vie de bohème - Aki Kaurismäki

France-Finland/ 1991/ 100 min/ DCP/ VOSTF

Based on the novel Scenes from Bohemian Life by Henry Murger. With Jean-Pierre Léaud, Samuel Fuller, Matti Pellonpää.

In Paris, Marcel Marx, an author in need of a publisher, was expelled from his home. He met an Albanian painter, also penniless, then an Irish composer. The three men soon become inseparable and decide to share their misery and artistic fervour. Polar humor and melancholic mood, Kaurismäki summons the characters of the novel of Henry Murger in a series of black and white vignettes, as funny as pathetic, who sees some cosmopolitan outcasts spreading their moods in a Parisian suburb of the 60’s fantasized.
